The best stag do day activities in Edinburgh
Edinburgh is a really special kind of city. A city where it seems like there is a café or restaurant every five freaking steps, and in between all those is somewhere you can buy some booze! I love the people here in Edinburgh, they are just good folks who appreciate that people like you want to come and have a wild time in their city! And down below (no, not in my pants, I mean the article) I have a few ways for you to do that!
For fans of first person shooter video games I have the ultimate activity for you: Xtreme Combat Laser Tag! These guys are so badass they don’t even need the E in Extreme! Anyway, this is not your 1980’s crappy kiddie-style laser tag. This is every bit as good as paintball, and – dare I say it – even better. There’s no running out of ammo and these state-of-the-art laser guns are so accurate you could shoot the balls off a fly. So pick your teams and then take the war to your opponents and make sure you win. And if you don’t, take down as many of those bastards as you can!
One of the most exciting things you can do during your Edinburgh stag do is take a wee trip just outside Edinburgh and spend the day Canyoning. This is one hell of a wild adventure where you’ll need to do a little bit of rock climbing, some swimming, explore a few caves and even fly down some natural water flumes. This may be tough and a hard day’s trek, but you’ll feel like a million bucks at the end of the day. Plus you’ll sure as hell feel like you’ve earned those first few beers.
Hit the track and race on the only five star rated indoor go karting track in the UK. This is like you guys are in your own mini F1 race, with warm up and pole setting laps taking place before an actual race to see who the best driver is. Will you be on the podium with the bubbly? Or will you be crying like a chump because you lost? Either way you boys will have a good laugh here.
To move things up a notch and do something a bit different, then head to Winston House and partake in a wee bit of Hovercrafting. You are probably wondering two things. First, what is hovercrafting? And second, is hovercrafting actually a real word? Well, my friends, let me tell you what this is. Its awesome that’s what it is, you guys will be racing on mini hovercrafts! These things are so cool and something that I bet not too many of your friends (if any) have ever driven before.
More Edinburgh stag do day events, but with an edge!
Here are a few of the more weird and wonderful things that you guys can get up to during your Edinburgh stag weekend!
Here I have an activity that mixes the outdoors with the indoors... but it’s still indoors. Rock climbing! Any real action man should be able to do some rock climbing, and here at Alien Rock they will teach you boys how to do it. There are different rock walls you can climb, ranging from nice and easy to are you freaking insane, I am not climbing that!
Next up I have a way for you to spend time together as a group, do something productive and get pissed all at the same time. Am I some kind of stag weekend wizard? Nope, I just have a tremendous Cocktail Making Class at Barsoba for you to check out. Here you will feel just like Tom Cruise in the film cocktail. You’ll learn how to mix, shake and pull women! Well, maybe not that last one, but any guy who can mix drinks is sure to be a hit with the ladies. This is loads of fun and you and your mates will have a laugh trying out each other’s drinks.
Now is the time for you guys to really come together, form a clan and take part in the mini highland games! This is mental and something that is so Scottish! Here you guys will do all the classic events like tossing the caber (nope I am not even going to touch that with a masturbation joke, it’s too obvious) tug of war, hammer throw and my favourite – welly wanging – and I’m sure you’re all good at wanging things! You can work as a team to take on rival groups, or if you have a large stag group you can split into teams.
Last up I have for you an hour or two of zorbing. Here you guys will get in these huge balls and then roll down a hill! This is crazy and will have more than a couple of you puking your guts at the bottom of the hill. If you want to be ‘nice’ to your friends, then make sure to smash into them as you’re rolling!
Things to do & things to avoid in Edinburgh!
Edinburgh is a huge place, but knowing the good from the bad can be tough. Well, if you look down below and follow my advice, you will only see the best of the city.
A nice breakfast after a long night!
No-one likes a hangover. The best cure is a nice big, fat fry up, but instead of heading to some horrible little creepy café that looks like it’s run by the dungeon master, go to The City Cafe where, among other things, you can get a full English breakfast to get you back into shape.
Where to go for lunch
Edinburgh does have some amazing little places for a good lunch, but who wants to wander around for an hour trying to find the perfect place when this is a stag do, not Scotland’s Next Best Restaurant. That is why I suggest the Handmade Burger Company. Yes it’s not ‘Scottish’, but they do offer the best damn burgers in the land.
Taxi Firms In Edinburgh
Edinburgh is another one of those cities where half the bloody cars on the road seem to be taxis. For a group on a stag do here it’s amazing as it’s so easy to get a taxi. But it must be a right pain in the arse for people driving here every day. Anyway, the two largest taxi firms in Edinburgh are , who use these cool big black taxis, and there is also the popular City Cabs.
Worst time to come here
Now, I may get into a bit of trouble for this, but my job here is to ensure you boys have a great Edinburgh stag do. And with that in mind, you may want to try and avoid Edinburgh during the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. I have nothing against this at all as it’s a pretty damned impressive show as a matter of fact, and one of the most popular tourist attractions in Scotland, but it also means that the city is heaving (even more than usual), and getting in and around Edinburgh can be a bit of a pain.
Sporting events in Edinburgh
Sport is huge in Edinburgh and there are two main football teams in Hearts and Hibs. The Edinburgh derby is one of the highlights of the Scottish football season each year. If rugby is more your thing, then Murrayfield is the home of the Scottish Rugby team.
Festivals
One thing that people come from all over the world to see is the Edinburgh Festival. It’s the largest festival of this kind in the world, and sees loads of artists and other types of entertainers come to the city each year. A huge part of this is the Edinburgh Comedy Festival, which sees the best comedy acts from all over the world perform here.
Pharmacies in Edinburgh
Hey, I know things can happen on a stag do in Edinburgh (trust me I really know!), and with that in mind, you may need a pharmacy. Well, it may not be open 24 hours, but the pharmacy in the Asda here is open later than most and the actual store is open 24 hours.
