Manchester Stag Day Ideas
Now, people of Birmingham, Newcastle and Edinburgh do not kill me, but I think that it’s fair to say that Manchester is number two behind London for the most obvious place for a stag weekend. A city this size, you just know it’s going to have a tonne of things to do, and that is what I am doing today. I am going to show you the most popular – plus some of the more obscure (but awesome!) – stag day ideas for your stay in Manchester.

Popular stag day events in Manchester
I had a really fun time during my stay in Manchester, and I was lucky enough to try out some of the most popular stag do events here. It’s a really cool city that also caters for stag groups by having a vast amount of pubs and bars to kick back and have a few drinks in. And the food here is amazing, no matter how fussy you are. Manchester has your back.
One thing that I think every stag group should do in Manchester is to check out the Chillfactore. This is the UK’s best indoor skiing and snowboarding place. Even if you have never been snowboarding before (like me), this is awesome! You can take a quick lesson and then you’re let loose on the slope to most probably fall on your ass. You will be covered in bruises, but that does not matter as you will be having so much fun.
Next I have a day of paintball. Now, I’m a huge fan of paintball and have played it at many of the UK’s best spots. Well, Delta Force Paintball always deliver. They offer you guys a great way to have fun and act like big kids as you run, hide and shoot your friends. What I really love about playing paintball here is that they have some of the best game zones I have seen. My personal favourite is the zombie one that makes you feel like you are in the movie ‘Day Of The Dead’.
If you take a wee drive just south of Manchester then you boys can test your manhood and see who is man enough to try out some abseiling. This is not indoor on some phony rock wall (which is still pretty cool, by the way). You will actually be climbing a real rock face in a picturesque part of Manchester. You will have an instructor to help you and keep you safe. Getting the nerve to actually step off the ledge or take your first step off the floor can be hard, but this is the kind of activity that once done you will either feel like a total badass or you will need a clean pair of underpants.
One way to do something outdoors and not get all muddy, plus avoid a sweaty ass crack, is with a round of archery. I love archery and I was surprised at how easy it was to pick up the basics. After a quick lesson, you guys will be able to try and see who can score the highest. One thing I found with archery is just how damn addictive it is.
One of the main highlights of a trip to Manchester is the huge shopping centre the Trafford Centre… Not for the boring-as-hell shopping, but the awesome Ariel Extreme High Ropes Course. This is crazy as it’s the only high ropes course that I know of which is set in an ‘inner city’ area. This makes climbing around up there that little bit cooler and somewhat unnerving. And as Manchester is home to some smoking-hot women, you can see right down their tops! Not that I am suggesting that kind of pervy behaviour, of course.
One way to gamble, eat, drink and have one hell of a great time is with a day at the dogs. Greyhound racing on paper sounds as boring as dinner at the in-laws! But man, you get really invested in these dogs, especially when you have a wee bit of money on one of them. The food is great, drinks are great and the people here in general are just really nice and will make sure your stag group is taken very good care of.
A few more great Manchester stag day ideas
Here are a few more personal picks of places that I highly recommend. If your stag group goes to any of these, you will be in for a fantastic time.
One thing that is really cool and pretty unusual is an hour or so of riding around in a hovercraft. These bad boys are just really weird to drive and it can take a little while to get used to them, but once you do, you guys will have an awesome time. I never knew that these things could go so damn fast. Once you get the hang of it, you guys will be able to race on the funky little course that they have.
One thing that I cannot recommend highly enough is Breakout. No, I am not talking about the old Atari video game. Here you guys will be put into groups of 2-4 guys and from there you will need to use clues and solve puzzles to get out of a locked room! This sounds weird and it’s a hard sell I know, but holy crap, I had a blast doing this. For something a little bit different, Breakout is perfect for your Manchester stag do. So please make sure you at least give this place a look!
The Smiths, Stone Roses, Joy Division, Oasis and so many more great artists come from Manchester and one really cool – well, not activity, more like an experience – is going on a music tour. They offer a great variety here, but let’s say you are a fan of the Stone Roses, the tour will cater to that group and take you to places of significance that impacted the career of the Stone Roses. This is very informative and just really cool.
Manchester has a few different places where you can partake in some go kart racing. One track that me and my mates had a great time at was Daytona. These guys know their stuff, let me just tell you that. The karts and the track are all geared towards people having the ultimate racing experience here. This is as close as you boys are going to get to being in an actual F1 race (not counting racing games on your Playstation, of course).
Staying on the right path in Manchester
Now, lucky for you I have spent quite a bit of time in Manchester and I have experienced the good… and the bad. But don’t freak out, as I have a little mini guide for you on some cool places to go to make sure your Manchester stag day is great.
A fine breakfast
The best cure for a hangover is not water and rest. It’s a damn fine English breakfast, with all the trimmings! The best place in Manchester to get that is the world (well, Manchester at least) famous, Koffee Pot.
Where to have lunch
I think that during your Manchester stag weekend you should sit down and have a nice lunch, even if it’s just to take a breather from all the crazy antics you guys are up to. Anyway, one place that is great for a group of hungry guys is the Almost Famous Burgers & Booze, who I can hand-on-heart say, they serve some of the best burgers I have ever had. And this is from a guy who has had more than his fair share of burgers over the years.
Getting a taxi in Manchester
Getting around Manchester if you are not from the area can be a right nightmare. But there are a number of large and small taxi firms in the city, so getting a taxi to pick up you drunken SOB’s up is never going to be an issue. Street Cars offer a 24-hour service and will get you where you need to go.
When to avoid Manchester
To be honest, the only time I would say having your stag do here is not a great idea is when the Manchester derby is on, and that is only if you are not a football fan! If you are a fan then you will love the atmosphere in all the pubs, but for non-football fans it will be more annoying than anything else.
Two of the biggest clubs in the country play football here: Manchester United and Manchester City, so for a football fan this is just awesome. Also, if you are more into ‘combat sports’ then the Manchester Arena has boxing, WWE wrestling and even the UFC come here.
For a festival that has a little bit of everything, you may be interested in checking out the Manchester International Festival, where a whole tonne of different things take place. For music lovers there are a few different festivals that take place during the year, such as the huge Bonnaroo Festival.
Finding a pharmacy in Manchester
Medichem is located close to the city centre and they are open late most nights of the week. Another pharmacy that you can try if you have done something stupid and need some DIY patching up, is the one in the Asda Superstore, which is open until 11 pm.
