Cardiff Stag Day Ideas
I will fully admit that before I actually went there, I thought Wales was nothing more than fields of sheep. But after a few trips, I can tell you fine gents that Cardiff is just freaking mental. The people here are awesome and there is a tonne of stuff to do here during your stag weekend. What I think makes the Cardiff daytime stag do activities so cool is that they have a great mix of things in the city with things in the great outdoors.

The best day time stag do activities in Cardiff
The vibe and feel of the great city of Cardiff is pretty awesome. The people here are really friendly, and on my first time here I had no clue what to expect, but I totally fell in love with the place. With its never-ending run of pubs, clubs and restaurants, it ticks all the boxes of a great stag weekend venue.
As well as being a great place for a piss-up, Cardiff is also known for being a truly beautiful part of the UK. The coastline here is amazing, and what better way to spend a few hours but by exploring it, with a day of coasteering. Coasteering is one hell of an adventure, where you’ll need to scale huge-ass rocks, make big jumps and even do a wee bit of abseiling and swimming. For you action men this is what you need to look into doing. I had a great time here, and I felt I earned every one of those beers in the pub afterwards.
Now, there is nothing cooler you can do during your stag weekend in Cardiff than clay pigeon shooting. This is just so much fun that I’m sure you and your mates will be just like we were and have some kind of competition, with a few beers on the line. The shotguns that you will be using have some serious power behind them, and you will feel like some kind of unstoppable gangsta.
Paintballing is an activity that always makes a top ten list of great stag do events. I have played loads of paintball over the last few years, and I can tell you that the setup here is amazing. Once you have all your safety gear, gun and have picked your game scenario, it’s off to war. What I thought was cool here was that the guns they use are far more accurate than any other paintball guns I have used, and they don’t hurt as much! For a really fun day out rolling in the mud, climbing up trees and shooting your mates in the behind, this is what you need to do.
One activity that I always recommend, but not enough people actually do, is whitewater rafting. This is a great way to enjoy the outdoors (well, actually, this place is in the middle of the city, but you know what I mean!). This is a really badass activity that will require you guys to work well as a team to make it down the rapids in one piece. You’ll have an instructor to help you out, but it’s your stag group who are responsible for getting down the water.
I love a day of go karting, and Team Sport here in Cardiff is the place you want to go for your racing action! This is a multi-level race course that is also indoors, so even if it’s pissing it down, you can still race here. These karts go at about 40mph, and the track is full of sneaky turns and plenty of areas to go fast. A race here is just like being inside a video game, and it’s fun even for the terrible drivers in your group.
One thing that I had a tonne of fun with in Cardiff was playing a round of golf. Now I should point out that I’m not a huge golf guy, but the people here are really cool and they will take amazing care of you all. I did spend a fair bit of time looking for my balls – sorry, ball – in the tree, but my mates who are decent hitters also had a great time and were full of praise for the course. I think that golf manages to be both a good laugh and a relaxing activity, which is perfect just before a wild stag night.
Some extra Cardiff stag do activities
So we’ve already talked about the most popular day activities here in Cardiff. Now I want to share with you a few of my favourites that are definitely fun, but do not get the love of the more popular activities.
One thing that is pretty mental, fun and just really cool is indoor surfing. You may think you would have to go to Hawaii or the less glamorous Newquay to do a bit of surfing, but that is not the case. You guys can surf in Cardiff, but indoors! This is a lot of fun, and really original. And before you ask, no – they do not have any huge-breasted lifeguards like in Baywatch! And you can trust me on that, as I was actually looking.
While I’ve become a huge paintball fan over the years, and what with doing a crazy amount of travelling, I’ve come to have a huge appreciation for laser tag. This used to (well, in my eyes) be just for kids, but now it’s like you are one of the badasses from the 2nd Alien film! In Laser tag you’ll have these massive laser guns that are really accurate. The idea of the game is the same as paintball, but there’s no getting bruised from getting shot. This is an awesome day out, and if you want something a wee bit different from paintball (or the groom’s not keen on looking like a bruiser in his wedding photos!), then check this out.
While it may be predictable, I still think I should recommend quad biking to you guys. The great outdoors of Cardiff makes this a brilliant stag do day idea. You will be going on an adventure with your mates where you get to push these quad bikes to their limits. Your guide will make sure you get to tackle some really cool obstacles and ensure that everyone’s handling them safely. All in all it may not sound like the most exciting thing for your stag weekend, but I had a hell of a lot of fun here.
One thing that’s starting to really gain some popularity is Bubble Football. Now, I can hear you non-football fans groaning that you hate football. But here you are on a level playing field with the Welsh wizard, Gareth Bale. You see, skill is not an issue here as the huge zorb balls that you are in make it really hard to use your best moves. So, if someone has the ball and you want it, then just run into him and send him flying! This is guaranteed to give your group a few belly laughs and get your weekend off to a great start.
Getting the best out of Cardiff during your stag weekend
I have spent a fair bit of time in Cardiff and I want to share with you my thoughts, opinions and ramblings about how to make sure you have a good stag do here.
The best place to cure your hangover
I don’t care what anyone says, the best breakfast on a stag do in Cardiff is a full English. The Pot Cafe offers this and they also have some more boring stuff for the fussy eaters, like a slice of toast. If you ask me, any toast you have for breakfast on a stag do needs to have bacon or eggs on it! A full English also makes an excellent hangover cure.
A nice place for lunch
For lunch I can recommend a chain that is actually all over the country, and that is La Tasca. La Tasca is a really nice Spanish tapas restaurant that will make sure you are well and truly full, and ready for whatever Cardiff throws your way. They have food from places like Mexico, Spain, Brazil and Argentina to name but a few.
Best taxi firms in Cardiff
A party city like Cardiff has a large number of taxi firms and random blokes who will drive you around for a fiver... Do not get in a car with these people. Dragon Taxis and Capital Cabs are the two largest taxi firms in the city, and will get you where you want to go.
When it’s not a good idea to come to Cardiff
Cardiff does have a lot of ‘events’ on throughout the year, but none so huge that it makes getting round the place a pain in the ass. The winters can be pretty brutal here, especially if you guys are staying near the coast. But apart from that there’s nothing that would spoil it.
Sport in Cardiff
Rugby is huge here in Wales, and the Millennium Stadium is one of the best stadiums in the whole of the UK, and they host the Wales rugby team’s games. For football fans there is Cardiff City FC who, as I write this, are trying their damn best to get back in the Premier League.
Festivals in Cardiff
Cardiff has a huge music scene, with numerous festivals during the year. If you are more into R&B and rap music then you will love the X Music Festival. Also there is the very popular Cardiff Festival which has arts, comedy, music and a tonne of other stuff going on. So, when planning your Cardiff stag do, check to see what kind of festivals are on during your stay.
Pharmacies in Cardiff
I know that you maniacs may need some bandages, aspirin or – If you get lucky – some condoms. Well, while there’s no 24-hour pharmacy here, Asda have a pharmacy that is open until 10 pm.
